Winter performance
All three technologies work in Alberta winters, but they perform differently. Hybrids and PHEVs don't lose range the way full EVs do in extreme cold, because the gas engine takes over when needed. If you've been hesitant about EVs because of winter, a hybrid or PHEV solves the problem.

Charging infrastructure
Edmonton's public charging network is expanding, but it's not everywhere yet. If you don't have a home charger, a hybrid is the easiest way to go electrified without changing your routine. If you're installing Level 2 at home, a PHEV or full EV becomes much more practical.

Rebates and taxes
The federal EVAP program offers up to $5,000 on eligible EVs and $2,500 on eligible plug-in hybrids, applied at the dealership. Alberta adds a $200 annual tax on fully electric vehicles only. Hybrids and plug-in hybrids are exempt.
