The federal iZEV program exhausted its allocated funding in January 2025 and has been on pause since. Its successor, the Electric Vehicle Affordability Program (EVAP), officially launched March 31, 2026, and runs through March 31, 2031.

EVAP keeps affordability at its core. Eligible purchases and leases with a final transaction value at or below $50,000 receive incentives applied directly at point-of-sale, meaning the savings show up on the bill of sale or lease agreement immediately. Canadian-made EVs carry zero transaction value restrictions.

Here is how the tiers break down:

• Battery-electric and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles: Up to $5,000
• Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles: Up to $2,500

Incentive amounts will decrease gradually over the program's five-year lifespan, so earlier purchases access the highest available amounts. Purchases made on or after February 16, 2026, are eligible even though the program portal officially opened March 31, 2026.

EVAP eligibility requires a vehicle to be new (or a qualifying demonstrator with fewer than 10,000 km on the odometer), highway-capable, and compliant with Canada's Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. Vehicles must also be manufactured in Canada or a country with a free-trade agreement with Canada.
